Mexico City, October 3, 2023—. Mexico delivered a statement to the international community about its historical role in recognizing culture as a motor for well-being and a global public good with the inauguration of the MONDIACULT 2022 Hall at the "Los Pinos" Cultural Complex in Mexico City.

On the upper floor of the "Miguel Alemán" House, Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, Minister for Culture of the Government of Mexico, inaugurated the room, now named just like the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Development: MONDIACULT, whose working sessions took place a year ago at the same complex from September 28 to 30, 2022.

The physical proof of the Conference in the newly designated space is a reminder, just like Frausto Guerrero said, that

culture tends to unite what is divided in other fields,

recognizing the complicated international context despite which the Declaration was adopted by acclamation.

The central piece of the Declaration is a call to recognize culture as a global public good, which means no nation can adequately provide it alone, and its vital role in the well-being of humanity as a whole. Therefore, it also calls for positioning culture as an objective in the future international sustainable development agenda, as remarked by Andrés Morales, UNESCO Representative in Mexico.

That is a fact of the power of diplomacy and dialogue to improve the quality of life for people in their daily lives. The results of MONDIACULT 2022 are still unfolding, related to adapting to the digital world for the benefit of online cultural diversity and intensifying international cooperation to combat the illicit trafficking of cultural goods, for example.

"Naming this hall MONDIACULT is not only a homage to the only global conference that brought together culture ministers and high authorities from 150 countries but also a recognition by Mexico of the valuable role that culture plays in inclusion, peace, and sustainable development," said Andrés Morales.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Juan Patricio Riveroll Mendoza, Executive Director of Cultural and Tourism Diplomacy, on behalf of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Alicia Bárcena; Rene Orellana Halkyer, Regional Manager for Mexico and Central America of CAF-Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as ambassadors representing participating members of the Intergovernmental Conference.
