Meaningful Youth Engagement National and Regional Training Programs

UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science in the Arab States (Cairo Office), in cooperation with the UNESCO Youth Programme - in Paris, implemented two virtual training webinars on 鈥淢eaningful Youth Engagement - MYE鈥  aimed at enhancing the ways in which UNESCO and other UN agencies engages youth in the design and implementation of its activities. The first training targeted UN youth focal points from the UNCT Egypt Youth Task Force which took place on 3rd and 4th of October 2021 and the regional training targeting UNESCO Offices in the Arab States  took place on 11th and 12th of October 2021.

 

Both trainings were commenced by UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science in the Arab States Cairo Officer in Charge; Dr. Bisher Imam who emphasized UNESCO鈥檚 effort to ensure youth engagement throughout its work to have a meaningful impact. The first training webinar targeting UNCT Youth Task Force in Egypt was led by a young MYE Egyptian trainer; Mr. Mohamed Ghanem and UNESCO expert trainer and youth engagement specialist; Ms. Julia Stevens. The regional training targeting UNESCO offices in The Arab region was led by three young MYE from the region; Mr. Mohamed Ghanem from Egypt, Ms. Malak Laabidi from Tunisia and Mr.  Logman Osman from Sudan, with the significant support of Ms. Julia Stevens. 

 

The training program was based on the tool on 鈥淢eaningfully engaging with youth: Guidance and training on UNESCO鈥檚 work within the Operational Strategy on Youth (2014-2021)鈥, developed by UNESCO Youth Programme, in cooperation with a young expert trainer and developer of training tools. The developed tool intends to train UNESCO and other UN staff to assist in enhancing meaningful youth engagement practices across all UNESCO and UN鈥檚 work relevant to youth.

 

Discussions during both trainings differentiated between tokenism and 'meaningful' engagement of youth in programs that concerns them and how to assess and improve the types of youth engagement through programs鈥 phases.
