Launch of the UNESCO Green Citizens podcast!

Immerse yourself in the new UNESCO Green Citizens podcast series, which brings you to the frontlines of citizen-led climate action from the comfort of wherever you are.

Highlighting the complementarity between UNESCO's scientific expertise and local action on the ground, in each episode you are invited to learn about key environmental issues from 5 UNESCO experts, and 5 inspiring local project owners providing solutions.

In episode 1, find yourself in the heart of the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve where UNESCO biodiversity expert Maria Rosa Cardenas, and project owner Martha 鈥淧ati鈥 Ruiz Corzo, present the ! This community-led initiative has simultaneously advanced economic development and biodiversity conservation in Mexico. 

Dive into the Atlantic Ocean for episode 2, brought to you from Grand Bahama Island. In this episode, learn from UNESCO Ocean expert Fanny Douvere and project owner of Sam Teicher, all about the importance of saving the world鈥檚 corals. Coral Vita鈥檚 high tech coral farming solutions are restoring reefs and developing more resistant and diverse corals around the world. 

Episode 3 features UNESCO Biodiversity expert Meriem Bouamrane and project owner Grey Coupland, who invite you to understand why it is important to save forests and preserve biodiversity in Australia. Grey Coupland鈥檚 uses the Miyawaki method to plant mini forests and improve urban biodiversity, allowing school children to discover firsthand that they have the means to do something for the environment. 

Discover all about preserving marine ecosystems in Morocco with UNESCO expert Francesca Santoro and project owner Houssine Nibani, in episode 4. Recorded from the Al Hoceima National Park, a rare hub of biodiversity, in this episode Houssine Nibani describes how works with local communities to protect the area and support livelihoods.  

In the final episode, UNESCO expert Bernard Combes, and project owner Viktoria Keding, talk about protecting the desert and the importance of environmental education. Based in the heart of the Namib desert, one of the oldest in the world, Viktoria Keding鈥檚 initiative takes a concrete approach to teaching children about ecology!

UNESCO Green Citizens is an initiative that brings together local citizen solutions, UNESCO's scientific expertise and young people's willingness to get involved in the fight against climate change. It highlights more than 150 innovative and scalable projects carried out by citizens in 65 countries, to show just how much local citizen action can help combat climate change.
