Kazakhstan: Journalists for Media Independence and Safety of the Profession

UNESCO Almaty presented UNESCO Priorities and Resources for Media Development and Journalists' Safety on the round table Journalists for Media Independence and Safety of the Profession organized by Adil soz Foundation with the support of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on 8 September 2022 in Almaty.
The Ministry of Information and Public Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, media NGOs, journalists of independent media, and representatives of international organizations participate in the roundtable.

Communication and Information Specialist, presented the following UNESCO priorities and resources at the roundtable:
- UNESCO promotes the freedom of expression and the right to information and strengthened capacities and raised awareness to enhance norms and policies related to freedom of expression, press freedom, the safety of journalists, including women journalists, and the right to access information, online and offline within its mandate.
- UNESCO cooperates with the Member States, media institutions, and civil society organizations that have conducted awareness-raising initiatives on freedom of expression and the right to information (commemorations of World Press Freedom Day (WPFD); the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists (IDEI); and the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI) As well as involving Member States, media institutions and civil society organizations that are taking steps to implement the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity, with particular attention to the safety of women journalists.
As well as the resources to various stakeholders: legislators, law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, universities and journalists.
