Project
GreenKayak
Keen kayaker Tobias started cleaning up Copenhagen´s canals during private tours, but soon realized that a more sustainable solution was needed. His vision? Encouraging people to collect waste from their local rivers, harbors, lakes and coastlines every single day during the summer. And so, in 2017, the first GreenKayak was launched, and was quickly fully booked for months in advance. Oke joined the team in 2018, helping to take the movement global, and the number of kayaks from 3 to 58.
More water, more waste, more locations
Since 2017, more than 25,000 volunteers have paddled for our rivers and oceans under the hashtag #GreenKayak, collecting over 42 tons of waste in total. The initiative has now reached Sweden, Germany, Norway and Ireland, offering local citizens from Hamburg to Dublin an enjoyable way to do their bit to protect nature. A mobile fleet of 10 GreenKayaks are used for activities and events to share and engage with school kids and other groups.
Working in partnership with local companies, GreenKayak is keen to expand with the aim of hitting at least 100 locations across the globe in the next few years.
