On 22 January, the Römisch - Germanisches Zentralmuseum in Mainz (RGZM) presented Italy with a funeral trousseau dating from the 5th millennium BC. This exceptional ensemble, including a precious jadeite axe head, evokes an early European elite who maintained long-distance relations between societies in Italy, Germany, Luxembourg, France and the British Isles. The seven objects were looted from a tomb near Laterza, in the Apulia region, and then acquired by the RGZM on the art market in 1986. They were returned to the Soprintendenza per I Beni Archeologici della Puglia, which is already planning the exhibition.
