Enhancing public awarness on cultural heritage sites

UNESCO Cairo and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities continue improving accessibility and presentation of Heritage Sites in Egypt, starting with a pilot project in Kom Ombo.

For the past few years, the continuous development of the heritage display concept, the gradual rise of globalized heritage tourism, and the advances in digital technologies and media communications have resulted in new possibilities, requirements, and complexities in the overall planning, purpose, technical means, and methods of interpretation and presentation of cultural heritage sites.

In response to these new opportunities and challenges and in close collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (MoTA), UNESCO Cairo successfully completed the development works of Kom Ombo Archaeological Site in Aswan. The intervention includes the installation of the interpretive and illustrative panels that inform on the archaeological and historical documentation of Kom Ombo Temple, Gate and Pylon, Outer Hypostyle Hall, and other components of the site to enhance public awareness of the audience.

Kom Ombo is one of the components of the Cultural Heritage Sites, this accomplishment is the outcome of the long-standing cooperation between the UNESCO Cairo and the Government of Egypt.
