Director-General in Washington to attend UN Chief Executives Board

From 19 to 21 November, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, will travel to Washington to attend the second regular session of the United Nations System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB) for 2014, hosted by the World Bank Group in Washington D.C.

The discussion at this session will focus on the post-2015 development agenda and other issues of UN system wide concern, including the UN response to the Ebola Crisis and the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) at the country level. The Director-General will also brief the CEB members on the work carried out so far by the Secretary-General's Scientific Advisory Board, for which UNESCO is hosting the Secretariat. 

While in Washington, the Director-General will attend the 鈥2014 Champions of the Earth鈥 Awards Ceremony, organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as well as a dinner hosted by the Managing Director of the IMF, Christine Lagarde, for the CEB members. 

The CEB meeting brings together, twice a year, the UN heads of agencies, funds and programmes, under the chairmanship of the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon. Its function is to further coordination and cooperation on a broad range of substantive and management issues facing the United Nations.
