Director-General to participate in the World Education Forum 2015 in Incheon
From 19 to 22 May, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, is traveling to the Republic of Korea to take part in the World Education Forum 2015, held in Incheon, where UNESCO will be leading the way, in collaboration with six co-conveners, UNDP, UNFPA, UNHCR, UNICEF, UN Women and the World Bank, to build a powerful new education agenda.
The will provide a unique platform for global leaders in education, ministers, policy-makers and representatives of civil society, teachers, experts and the private sector to take stock of achievements and shortfalls in the implementation of the , and to agree on a joint position for the education goal and targets in the post-2015 development agenda, which will be adopted by UN Member States at a Summit in September 2015. Over 130 Education Ministers are expected in Incheon. It will also be an opportunity for the international education community to chart the way for the implementation of the post-2015 education agenda through a Framework for Action.
Key speakers at the World Education Forum 2015 will include the President Park Geun-Hye, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea and Education Minister Hwang, Woo-yea, UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, Her Highness Sheikha Moza of Qatar, the principals of UN Women, UNICEF and UNFPA, and the co-laureate of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize, Kailash Satyarthi.
While in Korea, the Director-General is expected to meet with President Park Geun-Hye, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Yun Byung-se, and the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Hwang Woo-yea.
In Seoul, the Director-General will also participate in the UN Academic Impact Forum on global citizenship with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon.
