The Director-General expresses her outrage and condemns the attack against the Potiskum College in Nigeria
On 10 November, the UNESCO Director-General said in response to the attack against the Potiskum College in Nigeria:
"I condemn this appalling attack which cost the lives of 47 students and wounded almost a hundred more -- this horrendous act marks a new escalation in the violence against children and against their right to education, who embody the future of their country."
"On this occasion" she continued, "I express my deep solidarity with the government of Nigeria -- UNESCO will do everything to accompany and underpin its efforts to enhance the educational system, guided also by the UN Security Council Resolution 1998. Schools must remain safe places for individual fulfilment, societal development and peace, and education is the strongest pillar for tolerance and peace."
