The Director-General condemns the suicide attack against the French Cultural Institute in Kabul
"I condemn in the strongest terms the unacceptable attack against the French Cultural Institute in Kabul," said the Director-General of UNESCO, following the suicide attack at the Lyc茅e Istiqlal.
"My thoughts are with the families of the victims and I hope that those who were injured will recover quickly. This attack is an attack on education and culture, which are by nature privileged forces for individual and collective development, freedom of expression and dialogue. Peacebuilding requires unwavering support to all cultural and educational institutions, and the protection of those who have the courage to keep them alive, even in difficult situations," she added.
UNESCO remains fully committed to protecting educational and cultural institutions, to supporting teachers and cultural operators, which are increasingly the target of terrorists and armed groups seeking to weaken and demoralize populations targeted by their attacks on symbolic institutions, identity carriers, and spaces for dialogue and creation.
