Director-General condemns killing of reporter Hafeez Ur Rehman in Pakistan
The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, today condemned the murder of Hafeez Ur Rehman, a television reporter, in Kohat, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, in northwestern Pakistan.
鈥淚 condemn the killing of Hafeez Ur Rehman,鈥 said the Director-General said. 鈥淭his murder deserves the full attention of the authorities and I trust that they will spare no effort in in vestigating this case and bringing those responsible for it to trial.
Hafeez Ur Rehman, a reporter for independent network Neo TV, was killed by unidentified gunmen on 23 November in Kohat.
The Director-General of UNESCO issues statements on the killing of media workers in line with Resolution 29 adopted by UNESCO Member States at the Organization鈥檚 General Conference of 1997, entitled 鈥淐ondemnation of Violence against Journalists.鈥 These statements are posted on a dedicated webpage, UNESCO condemns the killing of journalists.
