Director-General to attend the 15th Francophonie Summit in Dakar

From 28 to 29 November, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova is undertaking a visit to Dakar on the occasion of the 15th Francophonie Summit, and at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Senegal, His Excellency, Mr Macky Sall.

Held under the theme 鈥淲omen and Children in the Francophonie: Peacemakers and Key-players for Development鈥, the Summit will pay tribute to President Abdou Diouf, Secretary General of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), whose third and last mandate ends this year. A new Secretary General will be elected at the end of the Summit, that will bring together 77 Heads of State and their respective delegations as well as representatives of international organizations, NGOs, and key players in economic, cultural, and social affairs. The Director-General is scheduled to speak at the opening session, where she will deliver a speech on behalf of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon.

On the margins on the Francophonie Summit, the Director-General will launch the French version of the United Nations Creative Economy Report in the presence of the Ministers of Culture of C么te d鈥橧voire, Mr Maurice Kuakou Bandaman, and of Senegal, Mr Mbagnick Ndiaye, the Director for Diversity and Cultural Development in the International Organization of La Francophonie, Ms Youma Fall, and the United Nations Programme Director for Development, and Resident Coordinator in Senegal, Ms Bintou Djibo. This is the first French edition of the Creative Economy Report.
