De-mining and Preventing Illicit Trafficking of Cultural Properties in Koh Ker, Cambodia

As part of its efforts to ensure the protection and development of the archaeological site of Koh Ker and enhance the livelihoods of local communities, UNESCO Cambodia, with the support of the Heritage Emergency Fund, has implemented the project 鈥淒e-mining and Preventing Illicit Trafficking of Cultural Properties in Koh Ker, Cambodia.鈥

UNESCO partnered with APOPO, in collaboration with the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), to conduct landmine clearance operations in the Koh Ker area and surrounding buffer zone, while working closely with the National Authority of Preah Vihear to increase local capacities in heritage management and risk preparedness, and to raise awareness on the prevention of looting and illicit trafficking in line with the 1970 Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property.
