Climate change is the subject of a teacher training course in Brazil
The cities Itaja铆, Ilhota, Luis Alves, and Navegantes (Santa Catarina State, Brazil) are benefited with the UNESCO Project Climate Change for Sustainable Development.
In an unprecedented initiative in Brazil, teachers, pedagogical coordinators and educational managers participate in the training course 鈥淓ducation on Climate Change for Sustainable Development鈥. The course will take place in Itaja铆 (SC, Brazil) from 17 to 19 September, and from 23 to 25 September, 2014. The city was chosen for having suffered a great impact during floods in 2008 and 2011. As well as the neighbour cities Ilhota, Luis Alves, and Navegantes, which were affected by landslides. The UNESCO initiative counts on the partnership of the Ministry of Education and the Municipal Secretariat of Education in Itaja铆 (SC).
In response to the increasingly frequent natural disasters, the capacity building project has the objective to cooperate with raising awareness of the climate change impacts resulting from actions of individuals, communities, as well as national and regional actions. UNESCO in Brazil will train 100 lower secondary education teachers of public schools in subjects such as Natural Science and Mathematics, Human Sciences, Languages and Signs. Besides, educational managers and other professionals from the Municipal Secretariat of Education will participate in the training course. The idea is to have a multidisciplinary and crosscutting 40-hour training, permeating all school bodies.
