Brazilians Mateus Solano and S么nia Bridi join the team of the event about oceans
Targeted to journalists, communicators, influencers, academics, researchers, and society, the event aims at raising awareness and engaging people on the importance of the seas.
The Actor Mateus Solano, advocator of the Clean Seas Campaign and of the implementation of the U, and Sonia Brid, a Journalist specialized in covering environmental subjects, will be part of the agenda of the event (in free translation: Ocean Connection). Targeted to communicators, this is the first event in Brazil that aims at structuring guidelines to communicate, to engage and to raise awareness of the society on the importance of the conservation of seas for the fields of economy, well being, tourism, research, among others.
The Brazilian Actress and Ambassador for Peace Maria Paula Fidalgo have also confirmed her presence in the event, as well as the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Oskar Metsavaht; the Sailors Isabel Swan and Lars Grael; the Economist Vilfredo Schurmann; the Journalists Paulina Chamorro and Paula Saldanha; and the Surfist and Entrepreneur Rico de Souza. With a dynamic format, Conex茫o Oceano will have a round table and a 鈥榖runch鈥 of ideas, in addition to the presentation of successful case studies 鈥榮peed talks鈥, which will demonstrate the impact of the ocean on various themes.
The workshop will be open to the public, at Museu do Amanh茫, in Rio de Janeiro on 03 September 2019. The event is jointly organized by Funda莽茫o Grupo Botic谩rio de Prote莽茫o 脿 Natureza, by the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), by UNESCO Office in Brazil and Museu do Amanh茫 (Tomorrow Museum in free translation). The registrations are limited and can be done through the Museu do Amanh茫 .
The Ocean Decade
The event will also highlight the , proclaimed by the UN. Its objective is to broaden international cooperation to promote the preservation of the oceans and the natural resources management in coastal zones. 鈥淚t is necessary that we think about new ways to raise awareness of society and to disseminate to all the importance of the oceans in our daily like. This involves the development of what we call at UNESCO as an ocean literacy based on scientific precepts. I believe that the Conex茫o Oceano event is a unique opportunity to think over this new vision the ways to consider the oceans, seas and marine resources,鈥 defended the Director and Representative of UNESCO in Brazil Marlova Jovchelovitch Noleto.
According to the Executive Director of Funda莽茫o Grupo Botic谩rio Malu Nunes, the strategies to ensure a sustainable future also depend on the preservation of the seas. "The oceans are powerful climate regulators and they host wealthy biodiversity. We need to make society be aware and engaged so that the marine ecosystem can be preserved. In this context, communication is an essential tool to reach this objective," she highlights.
