On 14 June 2014, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, began her first official visit to Bolivia, during which occasion she attended the commemorative ceremony of the 50th Anniversary of the Summit of Heads of State and Heads of Government of the Group of 77+China, in Santa Cruz. The theme of the Summit is "For a New World Order for Living Well".

The Director-General attended the inauguration ceremony, which was opened by H.E. Mr Evo Morales, President of Bolivia, who addressed the Summit along with other key note speakers, including UN Secretary-General Mr Ban-Ki Moon, the President of the 68th General Assembly, Mr John W Ashe, the Mayor of Santa Cruz, Mr Percy Fernandez, and the Governor of Santa Cruz, Mr Ruben Costas Aguilera.

In his speech, President Evo Morales called for a more fair new world economic order and stressed that the Summit would draft a global anti-poverty agenda.

Mr Ban Ki Moon expressed his appreciation to the G77+China for their great contribution toward peace, stability, development and human rights. The Director-General will be on Bolivia until 17 June.

This meeting is also an opportunity for UENSCO to continue the dialogue engaged in May last in New York, when the Director-General presented UNESCO’s vision of Post-2015 to G77. “The new development agenda should be universal to be sustainable, engaging all countries equally and reflecting their cultural diversity,” said the Director-General.
