Amazonian countries to discuss Biosphere Reserves, Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development
Over 30 leading scientist from Amazonian countries will meet at the International Seminar ‘Biosphere Reserves, Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development of the Amazon’ that will take place in Foz de Iguaçu, Brazil from 22 to 25 April 2015. This event is an initiative of the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) programme of UNESCO, the Federal University of Latin American Integration (UNILA) and the UNESCO Chair in South-South Cooperation for Sustainable Development of the Federal University of Pará, Brazil.
The Seminar will discuss issues related to the Amazon in the current international context and the challenges of regional integration, as well as the phenomenon of population mobility along frontier areas of the Amazon and inside Brazil and other Amazonian countries. The event will also examine controversial issues related to development policies and the building of hydroelectric dams in the Amazon. Finally scientist will analyze the results from the project ‘Rural Sustainable Development and Conservation of Biodiversity in the Amazon Biosphere Reserves.’
