On 7 August, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Festival of Bulgarian Folklore in Koprivshtica
The jubilee edition, held under the patronage of Irina Bokova, is hosted by the Ministry of Culture of Bulgaria and the Koprivshtica Municipality. Organized every five years, it brings together Bulgarian musicians and performers of all ages, from all the parts of the country and abroad.
The festival showcases the Bulgarian intangible heritage and promotes its values. As such, it is ranked among the most memorable and important events in Bulgarian cultural life. The choice of venue is no coincidence either. Koprivshtica is a museum town that has kept alive the memory of landmarks in the history of Bulgaria from the National Revival period, preserving its beautiful architecture from the same epoch. At the opening concert, the spectators will be able to enjoy the performance of the 鈥. This elderly female vocal ensemble was declared Masterpiece of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2005.
