30th Anniversary of UNESCO's Routes of Enslaved Peoples Programme
UNESCO’s Social and Human Sciences Sector invites stakeholders worldwide to participate at the 30th Anniversary of the Routes of Enslaved Peoples programme, founded by UNESCO in 1994 to address the legacies of slavery and the consequences of deeply entrenched social and economic injustice.
Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 October
The 30th Anniversary will be held on Wednesday 9 (6:30-9:00 PM - CET) and Thursday 10 (10:30-11:30 AM and 6:00-9:00 PM - CET) at UNESCO's Headquarters in Paris.
Highlights will include a Opening Ceremony, followed by the launch of the UNESCO Network of Places of History and Memory.
A Roundtable will welcome Ministers who will share good practices to address the history and legacies of enslavement.
An opportunity to engage in the 30th Anniversary programme - including thematic talks and cultural performances
Experts from around the world, including members of UNESCO's Network of Anti-Racism and Anti-Discrimination Officials will provide insights on fostering racial equality and justice, strengthening the establishment of inclusive public policies and upholding the rights of people of African descent. The Anniversary is open to the public and will feature artistic performances.
