Senegal is a country of mixed peoples and cultures, rich in cultural and natural heritage, with a strong tradition of openness and peaceful coexistence between ethnic and religious communities. Inhabited for some 350,000 years in the Falémé Valley, Emerging Senegal is today a reality, with Dakar, a UNESCO Creative City, acting as the locomotive of this path. A creative metropolis, Dakar is home to major infrastructures such as the Museum of Black Civilisations (Musée de Civilisations Noires) and key events such as the Biennale of Contemporary African Art. As a modern city, it aims to increase its capacity for innovation by strengthening the place of digital arts in the palette of forms of expression of its artists and cultural and social actors. The city intends to make culture, creativity and innovation drivers for local development.

You start your virtual trip in Senegal through the exhibition of the seven exceptional sites inscribed on the World Heritage List, you cross fishing villages to dive into the rich underwater cultural heritage around the Dakar peninsula. This trip to the land of Teranga will also allow you to discover natural parks where the fauna and flora are exceptional and preserved, as well as other unmissable sites such as the city of Saint-Louis and the island of Gorée, symbols of an intercultural mix between the North and the South.

In 2016, the UNESCO office in Dakar invited the Senegalese photographer Layepro to make an original journey through Senegal to share his vision of the 7 Senegalese sites inscribed on the World Heritage List.

Funded by the UNESCO| Sabrina Ho "You Are Next" initiative, the Digit'elles project aims to fight against stereotypes and discrimination against women in the music industry in Senegal. Proposed by the Africulturban association, the project has helped to strengthen the technical skills of 20 young women musicians, but also to support them in the creation of micro-enterprises.

The Dakar Biennale, or Dak'Art - Biennale de l'Art Africain Contemporain, is a major contemporary art exhibition that takes place once every two years in Dakar, Senegal. Dak'Art's focus has been on Contemporary African Art since 1996.
