Located in Central Africa, Equatorial Guinea consists of an island entity and a continental entity, bordered by Cameroon and Gabon. The total area is 28,051 km虏, with a population of 1,014,999 (2001). The main cities are Malabo (administrative capital), Bata, Ebebiyin, Mongomo etc. The official languages are Spanish and French.
A former Spanish colony, Equatorial Guinea gained independence on 12 October 1968. On 1 January 1985, the country joined the Bank of Central African States.
The Equatorial Guinean economy is characterised by strong oil production. In addition, the country exports methanol, wood and cocoa.
