Yangambi Biosphere Reserve lies at the heart of the secondlargest tropical forest in the world after the Amazon Situated in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo the biosphere reserve stretches over a distance of 2350 km2 an area larger than the size of Mauritius On 21 March UNESCO organized a meeting with its partners to finetune a project which aims to turn Yangambi Biosphere Reserve into a hub for climate and biodiversity monitoring over the next 18 months
