Quality learning
Quality learning is the foundation of meaningful education, shaping how students engage with and make sense of what they learn. It is not just about retaining knowledge, it is also about developing the cognitive, emotional, and social skills students need to thrive and succeed throughout their lifelong education journey.
At the heart of quality learning is the creation of inclusive, equitable, and supportive learning environments that use relevant, context-appropriate curricula to meet the diverse needs of learners.
Well-qualified teachers and interactive, learner-centred pedagogical approaches are equally important to translate curriculum into meaningful educational outcomes.
Data and evidence are key to monitoring learning quality, as well as leveraging insights from the science of learning.
UNESCO works to improve learning quality by supporting Member States to design more effective curricula, pedagogical approaches, and assessment practices.
Happiness can be a key lever to enhance the quality of learning
UNESCO’s Happy Schools initiative recognizes happiness as both a means to and a goal of quality learning.
It is informed by a growing evidence base linking happiness with better learning, teaching, well-being and overall system resilience.

IIEP Learning Portal
The Learning Portal developed by UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning provides comprehensive, up-to-date information on learning issues, from primary through secondary education. It fosters a community and enables the sharing of tools, best practices, perspectives and questions to act for the future of learning.
