UNESCO and China to collaborate in promoting culture and sustainable tourism in Tanzania

Mr. Toto expressed his gratitude to the President of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Xi Jinping, and Prof. Peng Liyuan, the First Lady and UNESCO Special Envoy for Education, for their significant contributions to promoting strategic cooperation and partnership between China and UNESCO. He further extended his congratulations on the successful convening of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit and acknowledged that China has always been a key partner in UNESCO’s initiatives.

Thereafter, they discussed about the UNESCO Dar es Salaam Office initiative, to organize a Donors Roundtable in Zanzibar in May 2025 to support and promote sustainable tourism. They reached a consensus on the importance of this initiative, especially in the context of China-Tanzania Year of Tourism and Culture 2024.

H. E. Chen Mingjian stated that China places great importance on its cooperation with UNESCO, and that the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Tanzania will maintain close contact with the UNESCO Dar es Salaam Office to jointly promote collaboration on key projects in Tanzania.
