Protecting education systems against the impact of climate change - COP 27 side event
The changing climate is threatening children’s right to quality education and their achievement of essential learning and well-being outcomes. The Global Alliance for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience in the Education Sector (GADRRRES) with members including UNESCO, UNICEF and Save the Children, are responding to this major challenge with global policy, the revised Comprehensive School Safety Framework (CSSF), to strengthen education systems, so children’s learning is protected from all-hazards including the impact of climate change.

- Increase awareness about the impact of climate change on children’s education through the voices of youth, government, climate, and education actors.
- Highlight the revised all-hazards CSSF as an effective solution for protecting education systems from, and adapting them to, the impact of climate change.
- Share learnings and examples through the voices of children/youth, governments, and private sector of where the framework is already being implemented to protect children from the impact of climate change.
- Encourage further support (endorsement, investment, and adoption) of CSSF to protect more education systems from, and adapt them to, the impact of climate change.
