UNESCO, the International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030 (Teacher Task Force), the Ministry of Education of Chile, and the SM Foundation are pleased to invite you to the event "Teachers: Key Players in Sustainable Development," which will take place on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 12:00 to 14:30. The event will be held in a hybrid format at the Celso Furtado Conference Room of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), located at Av. Dag Hammarskjöld 3477, Vitacura, Santiago de Chile. 

This event takes place within the framework of the Forum of Latin American and Caribbean Countries on Sustainable Development 2025 and aims to launch in Latin America the first Global Report on Teaching Personnel in Spanish and Portuguese, prepared by UNESCO and the Teacher Task Force. Likewise, the UNESCO Regional Office in Santiago will present the new Regional Teacher Strategy 2025-2030, which seeks to foster international cooperation between countries in the region in order to strengthen education public policies to significantly increase the supply of qualified teachers. 

Participants

During the event, international specialists along with relevant actors in the education sector will discuss the main findings of the global report, addressing critical issues such as teacher attraction and retention, working conditions, continuous training, educational leadership, and active participation in education policies. The event will also be a key opportunity to learn about successful experiences implemented in different Latin American and Caribbean countries. 

The meeting will feature the distinguished presence of representatives of international organisations and Ministries of Education, academics, educational leaders, teacher unions, and education policy specialists. Among them will be Ms. Esther Kuisch Laroche, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Santiago; Mr. Nicolás Cataldo, Minister of Education of Chile; and Mr. Camilo Santana, Minister of Education of Brazil, who will lead the institutional opening. 

The central panel will include interventions teachers; representatives of Education International; the Network of Deans of Education of Latin American Universities; and renowned academics such as Mr. Cristián Cox, Director of the Centre for Comparative Education Policies at Diego Portales University (Chile). 

The event will conclude with the official presentation of the Regional Teacher Strategy 2025-2030 and the announcement of the Global Teachers’ Summit, which is scheduled to take place in the second half of 2025 in Santiago de Chile.
