Enhance open science and reinforce capacity development in basic and applied sciences to strengthen scientific research, innovation and technology

Scientific research, innovation, and evidence-based policies are essential pillars of sustainable development in Africa. Leveraging the potential of basic sciences, engineering, and emerging technologies is crucial to addressing global challenges and accelerating progress toward the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With young Africans projected to constitute 42% of the world's youth by 2030, enhancing science literacy, research, and innovation is vital to harnessing this demographic dividend.
Moreover, emerging technologies such as quantum science and technology (QST) present strategic opportunities to address critical challenges related to climate resilience, water management, and sustainable development. To prevent a growing quantum divide and ensure Africa's inclusive participation in this scientific revolution, promoting open science and strengthening capacity-building in QST are imperative.
