Award Ceremony of the Félix Houphouët-Boigny – UNESCO Peace Research Prize 2024

On February 24, 2025, UNESCO will host in Abidjan the Award Ceremony of the Félix Houphouët-Boigny – UNESCO Peace Research Prize. Established in 1989, this Prize honors individuals, institutions, or organizations that have made a significant contribution to the promotion, research, and maintenance of peace, in accordance with UNESCO’s values and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
The 2025 Laureates
For this edition, the international jury, chaired by Dr. Denis Mukwege (2018 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate), includes:
Michel Camdessus (France) – Former Managing Director of the IMF
Thomas Pesquet (France) – ESA Astronaut, FAO Goodwill Ambassador
Forest Whitaker (United States) – Actor, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Peace and Reconciliation
Hayat Sindi (Saudi Arabia) – Biotechnologist, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador
Santiago Gamboa-Samper (Colombia) – Writer, journalist, and diplomat
The jury will present the 2025 Prize to:
Mr. AntĂłnio LuĂs Santos da Costa, President of the European Council since December 2024 and former Prime Minister of Portugal, in recognition of his commitment to multilateralism, dialogue, and sustainable development.
A Special Prize will also be awarded to:
FundaciĂłn de Desarrollo Social Afroecuatoriana AZĂšCAR, chaired by Ms. Sonia Viveros, for its efforts in defending the rights of Afro-descendants in Latin America and its commitment to fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.
An Event Dedicated to Peace and Culture
The ceremony will feature:
Institutional speeches, addressing contemporary challenges related to peace and international dialogue.
Artistic performances, showcasing the essential role of culture as a means of bringing people together and promoting a culture of peace.
A Renewed Commitment to Peace
Through this award, UNESCO reaffirms its commitment to a world based on tolerance, cooperation, and mutual respect. The event will bring together key figures in peace and international dialogue to celebrate these exemplary commitments.
