The 2025 Arts Education Week in Chile is inspired by Gabriela Mistral

This year, the SEA will pay tribute to the Chilean poet and educator Gabriela Mistral (1889-1957), highlighting her poetic work and her educational legacy, 80 years after she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Under the theme "Territory of Messages", the proposal draws inspiration from her “Recados” (Messages), prose texts in which Mistral reflects on education, nature, literature and politics. During SEA 2025, children and young people will explore their territories through art, addressing their landscapes, cultural manifestations and social issues, sharing their experiences and those of their communities.
Esther Kuisch Laroche, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Santiago, emphasised that "Arts Education Week is a space for creation and reflection that reminds us of the transformative power of art in education. In this 2025 edition, we are inspired by the figure of Gabriela Mistral, a teacher and poet whose voice continues to resonate in education and culture. We invite all communities to join this celebration, exploring their territories through art and sharing their own 'messages' with the world."
Meanwhile, Carolina Arredondo, Minister of Cultures, Arts and Heritage of Chile, stated that "Arts Education Week is an excellent opportunity to explore the connection between art and education. This year, it is inspired by the work of Gabriela Mistral, the first Latin American woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature. It is a way to enrich this week, as her work and life are deeply linked to education, love for nature and social commitment."
SEA, which takes place every May throughout the country, provides a platform to develop and showcase various artistic activities and projects carried out by organisations that link art and education. Educational institutions of various levels, from early childhood education to higher education, as well as cultural and community spaces, participate, reaffirming the value of the arts in different educational contexts.
