Science Factor

Cross-Cutting Themes

Science Factor implements in France a systemic approach targeting both teenagers and teachers (key student’s prescribers). This approach involves an information campaign and a competition.

The information campaign is an exhibit themed “Women in Tech: They Innovate for Us!” () deployed in underprivileged and remote areas. It reached 300 colleges, 1,500 teachers, and 35,000 teenagers in 2024. Quantitative evaluations revealed a positive impact on adolescents: 44% of girls confirmed interest in STEM after seeing the exhibit, and teachers: 80% requested additional activities on the topic.

The Concours Science Factor () invites teenagers (6th to final high school year) to present as a team scientific or technical innovations, with demonstrated positive impact on a societal, economic, or environmental level. It implements positive discrimination: teams must be led by girls. In France, it’s the only STEM contest that succeeds in mobilizing equal proportions of girls and boys. Science Factor then mentors winning teams with experts to incubate their projects and consolidate their later interest in STEM careers.
