Lab Hopping Science Media Forum
Lab Hopping Science Media Forum is an Indian not-for-profit organization committed to amplifying the voices and contributions of women and minorities in science. This science media portal, initially launched as a blogsite thelifeofscience.com by science writers Aashima Dogra-Freitag and Nandita Jayaraj. The initiative began as a chronicle of women scientists they encountered while travelling across laboratories and research institutions in India. Over time, it has evolved into a broader collective advocating for diversity and inclusivity in the scientific community.
Through interviews, articles, and multimedia formats, including podcasts, comics, and videos, Lab Hopping brings attention to the experiences of individuals from systemically marginalized backgrounds, including those defined by caste, class, gender identity, ability, and geography. The initiative has expanded to include a core team and a growing network of science communicators, scientists, graduate students, journalists, artists, and content creators.
Lab Hopping has also contributed to science communication through popular science books books aimed at children and young adults. 31 Fantastic Adventures in Science: Women Scientists of India introduces young readers to inspiring role models from diverse disciplines, while Lab Hopping provides a critical examination of the challenges faced by women in Indian science and outlines a roadmap for a more equitable future. Lab Hopping offers science communication services with an inclusivity lens.
