Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate
This Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate (SROCC), produced by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), examines the observed and projected impacts of climate change on the world's oceans and frozen regions. The report details the rapid changes occurring in the cryosphere, including melting glaciers, shrinking sea ice, and thawing permafrost, as well as the warming, acidification, and deoxygenation of the oceans. It assesses the risks these changes pose to ecosystems, human societies, and ecosystem services, highlighting the vulnerabilities of coastal communities, Arctic residents, and high-mountain populations. The report underscores the need for ambitious emissions reductions and coordinated adaptation efforts to mitigate the risks and build resilience in the face of ongoing climate change.
