Women in STEM (WiSTEM) Ghana Girls' Camp
The Women in STEM (WiSTEM) Ghana Girls’ Camp, launched in 2018 in collaboration with the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), aims to create equal opportunities for all girls and to provide improved learning opportunities to boost their interest in STEM education. Normally a five-day event, the girls’ camp brings together female students from 20-30 local senior high schools in the Ashanti, Bono and Western-North regions in Ghana. Each year, these selected girls are camped on the KNUST campus to participate in activities such as career development, critical thinking in design management, effective communication and pitching, introduction to scientific literature review, digital coding, artificial intelligence, as well as mentorship. The boot camp intends to provide hands-on experience and a comprehensive developmental program to prepare the girls for a competitive labor market in the STEM fields.
