Women in Exact Sciences, Engineering and Computing at IM-UFAL

Cross-Cutting Themes

This initiative aims to inspire and empower elementary and secondary school-aged girls to engage with STEM fields through innovative methods observed in educational research. It places particular emphasis on connecting girls with female role models, drawing on the personal and professional experiences of women in STEM to discuss the challenges that women may encounter in these fields. Coordinated by four professors from Universidade Federal de Alagoas, the initiative also aims to familiarize students with the academic environment of higher education institutions, thereby motivating them to pursue advanced studies.

Employing interactive and playful approaches, the initiative features activities such as games, workshops, lectures, panel discussions, visits to campus research laboratories, and complementary classes in exact sciences, computing, and technology. Additional elements include science fairs and competitions in essay and scientific article writing on themes of gender and feminism. The overarching goal is to demonstrate that the ability to produce meaningful work and contribute to a more respectful, equitable, and inclusive world transcends gender.
