WRD2024 - 03: Radio is the Theater of the Mind
Presenting a World Radio Day Minute. Proclaimed in 2011 by UNESCO and endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 as a UN International Day, February 13 is World Radio Day…
What is radio’s greatest asset in competing with television, movies, videos and other visual media brought to the user via a screen? It’s the remarkable ability of the human brain and consciousness to generate imagination. The power of the spoken word to tell stories, enhanced in some cases by music and emotion, is virtually unlimited. Radio broadcasters are neither restricted by financial budgets in setting a scene nor physical boundaries in building a set. Reporters need not be accompanied by camera crews to cover fast breaking news events. They are only limited by their own language skills, powers of observation and passion. That’s why radio is the theater of the mind! This has been a World Radio Day minute from UNESCO.
