WRD2024 - 15: Vigilance Against Human Rights Violations
Presenting a World Radio Day Minute. Proclaimed in 2011 by UNESCO and endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 as a UN International Day, February 13 is World Radio Day…
Any form of technology can be a double-edged sword, and defenders of freedom and facts must always maintain vigilance. Radio is no different. During its first century, radio has stepped forward on the side of democracy as a vehicle and champion for human rights more often than not. One of the keys to radio’s ability to provide a vigilance against human right violations has been its structural diversity – as an institution composed of both large and small organizations… from major national government and corporate giants to small mom and pop operations marching to the beat of their own drummers in service to the people whom they know very well within the reach of their signals. This has been a World Radio Day minute from UNESCO.
