Radio is a well-established mass medium of everyday people and therein lies its strength and importance. Accessible, portable and affordable… it has the power to connect the people of a town, a region, a nation and, ideally, the world. Radio has the potential to bring the diverse people of the world together into the same wonderful mosaic that exists on the local level… a sense of community. It has the ability to fuel marketplaces of both commerce and art, as well as recreation. And most important, marketplaces of ideas… operated and utilized by engaged people of goodwill with civility and certainly with respect for each other’s differences. This has been a World Radio Day minute from UNESCO.
