WRD2024 - 07: Radio and the Automobile Industry

Language: English

Presenting a World Radio Day Minute. Proclaimed in 2011 by UNESCO and endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 as a UN International Day, February 13 is World Radio Day…

The worldwide radio community is concerned over a number of automobile manufacturers’ plans to no longer install AM radios in their new electric vehicles because of static (something that could be remedied). This increases the risk of both AM and FM devices being removed shortly thereafter from all types of new cars based on the controversial premise that terrestrial radio is on the verge of obsolescence like CDs, cassettes and 8-tracks. Such action can provide a hardship to the millions of people around the world without access to WiFi, as well as those who depend on AM radios as a life-line to their communities, religious services and basic news, traffic, sports and weather. Learn as much as you can about this issue and make informed decisions. This has been a World Radio Day minute from UNESCO.
